Screwloose(..Of Tooloose) by Milt Gross (0330-) 1st Appearance
February 17, 1929 - Count Screwloose was a
marvelous weekly offering from Milt Gross which gave us the zany antics of 'Count'
Screwloose. Screwloose was small energetic man who was clearly delusional
based on his self-imposed title and his rollicking antics. In Marx Brothers fashion,
the count would place himself into common-day situations only to bring havoc to them.
Screwloose's concepts of distorted high society norms often would ruin the
day for any average Joe he came in contact with. There was no continuity in
the strip and none was needed, each week's cartoon was a fully-complete masterpiece of
low-brow comedy. The market for Count Screwloose is similar to that of any Milt
Gross offerings, very hot. Sundays in virtually any size sell very well at
high premium. Dailies are quite uncommon, demand a high premium, and move
immediately when in stock.(51) |
