| Archie by Bob Montana (0040-) 1st Appearance in Newspaper comics 1947 - Created for Comic Books in the 1940’s, Archie grew to be the ultimate teen gag title of a generation. Archie was the typical good-natured high school teenager of the Post-war era. His story-lines revolved around his many tame love interests, mostly with Betty and Veronica and also his rivalry with the spoiled rich Reggie. The comedy relief of the comic was Jughead, Archie's slow-witted best pal. Created by Bob Montana, the inspiration for Archie was said to have come from an earlier teen comic strip, Harold Teen by Walter Berndt. After success in comic-books, the newspaper strip was introduced shortly after in the late 1940’s. Dailies and Sundays both appeared and ran for decades. Archie Sundays and Dailies both sell quite well. The appeal of the comic-book to the nostalgia generation, ensures the popularity of the less common strip version. (23/2) |
