Peanuts by Charles Schulz (1100-) 1st appearance October 2, 1950, 1st Sunday January 6, 1952 - From humble beginnings in 1950, Peanuts grew to become the most beloved and most widely carried comic strip of all.   Mostly a serial gag strip, Charles Schulz used the strip to entertain and create an indepth examination of the human condition.   The unforgettable characters that he created which included Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the gang became metaphors for the psyches that they represented week-to-week.    Schulz had an excellent knack of keeping his characters in character - never departing from their amusing shortcomings or becoming larger than life(except for Snoopy of course).   The dialogue was dependably analytical making virtually all of the entrire 50-year run a classic.    Inspite Schulz's untimely passing, the strip continues to be reprinted prominently of the front page of dozens of comic sections across the country as "Classic Peanuts".   The market for Peanuts strips is very strong but with a distinct date separation in price.  The popularity of the strip went to mega-heights beginning in the 1960's with it's introduction into other media, especially TV specials.   It was at this time that the strip began to be carried by virtually every newspaper in the country.   This causes an significant imbalance in availability of the strip pre- and post 1970.   Those pre-1970 strips command a relative premium, while early 1950's strips command a very high premium.   Later strips can still be gotten economically.  Collectors prefer Tabs and Halves when available, although early strips sell well in any size.   Dailies sell even better than sundays.
