Boots by Edgar Martin (0140-) 1st Appearance February 18th 1924 - Boots began on February 18, 1924 as one of the typical flapper strips of the roaring 20’s. Boots was a bob-haired beauty who was constantly followed by many beaus. Her misadventures were told largely told through daily and weekly gags.  Boots started out as a header strip for Our Boarding House. It graduated into a weekly page called ‘Girls’ in the early 1930’s. Eventually Boots took over the title in the mid 30’s. To help the strip’s popularity, the author Edgar Martin began including Paper Dolls in the ‘Girls’ era. These Paper doll inserts continued well into the 1950’s, Boots was one of the last strips to have them.  Except for a few folks looking for some nostalgia, Boots has a very thin following. The big exception is the Paper Doll strips, which sell quite well. The 1930’s fulls are the most sought-after and command significant premium. Through the 40’s and 50’s, because of decreasing carraige, the paper doll tabs of that era are also relatively quick sales. Dailies sell at a snails pace and can be had quite cheaply.
