Queer Visitors from the Marvelous Land of Oz(Introducing the Scarecrow, The Tin Woodsman and their Comrades) by L Frank Baum and Walt McDougall -  1st Appearance August 28, 1904 - In the year 1900, L Frank Baum wrote his immortal children's book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.    That first edition was illustrated by WW Denslow with whom the copyright was shared.  A dispute erupted between the two creators over those rights.  The Courts granted usage rights to the immortal charactes to both parties.   In 1904 Baum would go on to publish his second of thirteen 'Oz' books, 'The Land of Oz'.  To coordinate with the circulation of that book, Baum collaborated with Cartoonist Walt McDougall on an Oz offering in the sunday comics "Queer Visitors from the Marvel Land of Oz'. For 27 glorious weeks Baum's original stories combined with McDougall's artwork to produce some of the finest comics ever produced.  The Market for these pages is good.  These pages command the highest of premiums.   Note: WW Denslow also put out a short-run 'Wonderland of Oz' Newspaper Comic offering in 1904-05.  Those were NOT written by L Frank Baum.  Those are also quite rare and command a high premium.
