| Terry & the Pirates by Milton Caniff (0800-) 1st Daily October 22, 1934, 1st Sunday Decenber 9, 1934 - It wouldn't be stretching the truth saying that Milton Caniff was the Alfred Hitchcock of the comics. Terry and the Pirates, Caniff's greatest creation, uniquely displays many of the storytelling elements that Hitch would use in his movies. Terry and the Pirates is the story of a young lad named Terry, his mentor Pat Ryan, and their adventures in exotic China. Under Caniff, Terry would pit himself against smugglers, thieves and (of course) pirates in the dark far east. The most famous of the villains was the evil and seductive Dragon Lady (in actuality, Dragon Lady was probably the most popular character in the strip). The storylines of the strip integrated dailies and sundays for most of it's run under Caniff. These storylines contained the best of Film Noir elements; dark plots, evil villains, mysterious motives, and cliffhanger moments. Caniff would guide Terry into the service of his country during the World War II years, but would choose to leave the strip in the end of 1946 to try his talents on Steve Canyon. Terry would get taken over by George Wunder who stuck closely to the original adventure premise of the strip and guided Terry & Pat through the Korean and Vietnam wars. The market for Terry is very good, both dailies and sundays done by Caniff sell very well. Sunday were offered exclusively as Tabs, Halfs and thirds. Premium strips are isolated to the brief first-year sundays. | ||||

| That's My Pop by Milt Gross (0805-) First appearance 1929 - That's My Pop was just one of the many grand strips created by master funny cartoonist Milt Gross. This offering features a rotund pop who is in a never-ending search for the next scam, always trailed behind and observed by his son who always splurted 'That's my Pop!' in the final panel. The strip fit the great depression to a great extent. Pop's scams were usually around finding a job, something that many folks of the era could sympathize with. Other scams would see Pop getting meals or finding his way into shows and baseball games. Of course Pop's success rate were usually as good as the reason for the scam. If it was for his own benefit, pop's scams usually ended in failure and sometimes a chase by the local policeman. If it was for the benefit of his son, then somehow the scam would actually work. Regardless of how it turned out, the strip usually carried plenty of action and physical humor, a trademark of all of Milt Gross' strips. The market for That's My Pop is very good as is all Milt Gross Offerings. Printed as Tabs or smaller, these are very hard to keep in stock. | ||||
