| Private Lives by Edwin Cox (0660-) - Private Lives told the behind-the-scenes stories of the mannerisms of Celebrities and Political figures of the WWII era. Each one typically had a large main frame, with smaller windows in the interior surrounding the main character. The main frame feature is usually large and very nice, the smaller frames are somewhat less appealing. Noting the timing of the life of the strip, the personalities depicted were often closely related to their participation in World War II. The market for Private Lives is moderate. Offered in Halves, Tabs or smaller, collectors tend to pick these out based on the celebrities depicted. | ||||

| Radio Patrol (Pinkerton Jr, Sergeant Pat of...) by Eddie Sullivan & Charlie Schmidt (0665-) 1st Daily August 1933, 1st Sunday November 1934 - Following up on the popularity of Dick Tracy, Radio Patrol was the story of two-fisted Sgt Pat and his vendetta against crime. Hard-boiled investigation was the meat of the strip which centered around crime within Pat's radio range. Two-way radio communication was exciting and new in the early days of Radio Patrol, Dick Tracy did not get his two-way wrist radio until 1946. Pat and his partner Stuttering Sam would make excellent use of the radio to stop thieves and gangsters in 2-3 month storylines. The artwork on the strip, provided by Charlie Schmidt was quite superior to most strips of the era. Clean delineation and excellent motion were constants on the strip making it very visually appealing. The market for Radio Patrol is very good. Offered as primarily as halves and Tabs, collectors gravitate to runs when available. Dailies sell equally well as the sundays. | ||||

| Red Ryder by Fred Harman (0670-) 1st Sunday November 6, 1938, 1st Daily March 27, 1939 - Red Ryder was by far the most popular of the western comic strips not based on a real-life actor like Gene Autry. Red Ryder and his sidekick Little Beaver roamed the Colorado Hills making his meager fortune and bagging villains that stumbled along his way. Fred Harman was the creator of Red Ryder. Fred had shown his outstanding artistic abilities on his earlier strip Bronc Peeler that featured the incredible 'On The Range' western scenes. Those scenes were nothing less than classic and he brought the authenticity that they portrayed over to the scenery that Red Ryder walked. The storylines were typical 3-4 month range, Red was the crack shot who was also good with his fists. If he was outnumbered, Little Beaver was the politically incorrect bail-out. Fred Harman bought into the Paper Doll craze to a moderate extent by featuring Little Beaver Cut-outs frequently. In addition, Red Ryder was fully integrated into other forms of medium which included books, movies, and marketing premiums. As portrayed correctly in the classic movie 'A Christmas Story', Red Ryder BB-Guns were indeed immensely popular in their time The strip was strong through the 40's and 50's but ill health took Fred Harman and the strip's motif wained in the 1960's. The market for Red Ryder is moderately strong. Offered mostly as Halves or smaller, Full-Size pages from the early first 4-5 years exist which gloriously display Fred Harman's outstanding early artwork. Those Fulls rate a high premium and are highly sought-after - although must other sizes sell quite well regardless. Dailies sell about as quickly as Sundays. | ||||
