| Mandrake the Magician by Lee Falk, Phil Davis (0500-) 1st Appearance June 11 1934, 1st Sunday Feb 3, 1935 - Mandrake the Magician is the other great comic-strip of master cartoonist Lee Falk, creator of the Phantom. The Magic began in 1934 with the introduction of Mandrake and Lothar, his Royal African companion. The strip was always an adventure strip with storylines lasting a few months at a time. Mandrake and Lothar would battle the strange forces of evil. In the early days, the evil was usually mystical and bizarre in nature, later it would be more common evil like crooks and smugglers. The action of Mandrake was always fast and tight. That artwork by Phil Davis, who drew the strip into the 1960s was superb. The market for mandrake is very good. Sundays were usually offered as Tabs or Halfs of smaller, Rare fulls exist but are sold at a high premium. Most Sundays move fairly quickly, especially first-year 1935 pages which sell at a premium. Dailies are somewhat uncommon and sell quickly at premium as well. | ||||

| Mark Trail by Ed Dodd & Jack Elrod (0510-) 1st Appearance 1946 - Mark Trail must be classified as a documentary strip about nature preservation. Ed Dodd created the strip putting in an element of light adventure, but that would mostly disappear. Instead, nature scenes with a trademark silhouette would be most often be the focus of the strip. Inspite it's sedentary focus, Mark Trail lasted over 50 years as a staple of the comic pages. The market for Mark Trail is somewhat light. Because of that, good runs can be obtained quite reasonably. Offered mostly as tabs, halves or smaller, collectors especially like the strips which contained the 'Trail Ways' side feature. | ||||

| Mary Worth (Apple Mary, 's Family) by Martha Orr (0515-) 1st Daily October 29th, 1934, 1st Sunday January 13, 1935 - Created in 1934 by Martha Orr, Apple Mary was the original title of the popular Mary Worth comic which still lives on today. Mary Worth is the prototypical grandmotherly-type with good common sense and a small dash of uncommon bravery. Her storylines tended to revolve around the characters around her, but the ultimate sage advice to those characters would come from her. She would occasionally get out of sedentary mode and take up a little light action if the current events called for it. The Soap Opera style action of the strip made it a favorite through the early TV era. For all its longevity, Mary Worth tends to be an undervalued strip in the secondary market. As such, they can be obtained at quite an economical value in relatively complete sets. Both dailies and Sundays sell at equivalent pace, with the lone premium exception of a couple of Paper Doll Sundays which were produced briefly in 1935. | ||||

| Meditations by Peter Max (0520-) 1st appearance 1971 - The trademark artist of the Psychadelic 70's was without a doubt Peter Max. For a Brief time, he produced a wonderful single-panel strip called Meditations. The focal center of the strip was an elaboration of a single line of verse or poetry. The strips was brilliantly stated with imagination that rivals the work of Winsor McCay. Each week was a masterpiece which clearly defined the pop culture of the era. The market for Meditations is very hot. Because the strip was not carried in all paper markets, the supply of these doesn't keep up with demand. The quality of these is such that collectors will jump to get these in any size. | ||||
