Kerry Drake by Alfred Andriola (0430-) - 1st Appearance October 1943 - Kerry Drake was one of the better Dick Tracy copy strips ever created.   Beginning in 1943, Kerry Drake was a Police Detective that would battle colorfully named villains just like the Tracy strip.   Kerry Drake was a high quality strip, Alfred Andriola had a good eye for what appealed to the public.  Kerry Drake was hard on the trigger and stringent of morals, qualities which made Dick Tracy popular.   Kerry Drake is credited as being the first to tackle the crime of the illegal drugs.  The strip was reasonably popular, lasting for 40 years.  The market for Kerry Drake is really quite good.  Mostly offered as Halves, Tabs or smaller, Sundays sell well at standard strip prices.   Dailies sell at a similar strong rate as the sundays.

Kewpies, The by Rose O'Neill (0432-) - 1st Sunday Comic Appearance 1917 - The Kewpies are a true treasure of americana which made it into the sunday comics for two brief stints.  Rose O'Neil created the Kewpies in 1905 as a magazine feature.   The feature would invariably show the nymphish babes in character surrounding rhymes.    It was that theme which continued into the Sunday Comics of 1917.   The feature was easily one of the finest quality strips of the day, but O'Neill would shut down production with the close of the First World War.   The strip made a reappearance in 1935 and would take on a new quality.  Now the babes were featured strip characters getting into relatively harmless mischief.    Unfortunately, this iteration of the strip also lasted only a brief couple of years.  Regardless, the popularity of the Kewpie dolls and the characters live on for nostalgia fans across the nation.  Due to the popularity driven by nostalgia collectors, and the limited supply of the brief runs, the market for Kewpies is very good.  The early series from 1917 to 1919 were offered exclusively as fulls.   Those pages command one of the highest premiums of any title.    The second iteration from 1935 to 1937 were offered primarily as Tabs.   They too demand a very high premium.

King of the Royal Mounted by Alan Dean, Charles Flanders, Jim Gary (0435-) - 1st Appearance February 17, 1935 - Zane Grey is still world-reknowned as having been the ultimate pulp western writer.   The star-quality of his name gave impetus to cash-in and create the strip King of the Royal Mounted.    This was the story of the most stalwart of the Canadian Royal Mounted.   Each week, the intrepid Sgt King would fight rustlers, thieves and other northern criminals.   The best stretch of artwork on the strip was provided by Charles Flanders, longtime artist for The Lone Ranger.    Under Flanders,   King would display a clean classic stiff-chin demeanor which would thrill sunday comic readers each week.   King was one of the few strips which kept faithful to it's original adventure formula throughout it's 20 year run of both sundays and dailies.   The market for King strips is quite strong, especially in the Dean and Flanders years of the 1930's.    Dailies are very uncommon and sell at a higher premium than the sundays.

Krazy Kat by George Herriman (0440-) - 1st Appearance July 26, 1910 in 'Dingbat Family', 1st named strip October 28, 1913, 1st Sunday April 23, 1916 - Legend has it that Krazy Kat survived because it was the favorite comic strip of Newspaper Mogul Wiliam Randolf Hearst.  If that was true, then Mr. Hearst had foresight into the taste of the 21st century.  Krazy Kat is the most sought-after long-running comic strip amongst strip collectors today.  The antics of Ignatz Mouse and Krazy Kat were brilliantly created by George Herriman.    Always a gag strip, Krazy Kat began as a trailier to his 'Dingbat Family' daily.   Eventually it was realized that the trailer was the more popular of the two.   The most classic of the gags was Ignatz' habit of hurling a brick as the head of the lovestruck Krazy Kat.    When the strip graduated to sundays, it was relegated to the sunday editorial page in most papers.   Because of this, most examples until the mid-1930's were black-and-white, color versions in this era are extremely rare.    During the mid 1930's the strip began to appear in sunday tab sections for Hearst.    This coincided with Herriman's change of scenery to the desert southwest.   These color tabs are highly-prized by collectors.   The market for Krazy Kat is very strong.   Dailies and Sundays sell at high premium very quickly.
