Flyin' Jenny by Russell Keaton (0330-) 1st Appearance October 1939, 1st Sunday November 5, 1939 - Flyin' Jenny is a somewhat underrated strip which has a strong following.  Created by Russell Keaton in 1939,  Flyin' Jenny was a beautiful but tough aviator who would spend the war fighting the espionage agents of the Axis.  The strip featured clean artwork and tight storylines.  The market for Flyin' Jenny is strong.  Since the artwork was borderline 'good girl art', the demand for Flyin' Jenny comes from both adventure strip collectors and nostalgia art collectors.  The strip is almost always offered in half-page size or less, collectors look for nice color runs.  The premium exceptions are the pages from the early 40's which included some of the nicest paper dolls ever done.

Fritzi Ritz by Ernie Bushmiller (0335-) 1st Appearance October 9, 1922  1st Sunday,  1929 - Fritzi Ritz is best known for being the strip from which Nancy spun-off from.  In it's own right, Fritzi Ritz was a fine offering by Ernie Bushmiller which contained gags just as funny as those in Nancy.  Fritzi Ritz started as a flapper strip of the 1920's.  The character's appearance evolved past the flapper stage, but the gag-line stayed fairly close to the 1920's formula of a zany girl being followed by her beau (in this case Phil Fumble).  Nancy showed up in the early 1930's on a visit and zig-zagged in and out of this strip until it ended in the late 1960's.   The market for Fritzi Ritz is fairly strong.  Since the strip started in the 1920's when most strips were still full-size, collectors flock to those.  Those command a very modest premium above the common strip.  The only other real premium strips are the first appearance strips of Nancy.  In all, Fritzi Ritz is an economical, high quality buy.

Gasoline Alley by Frank King (0340-) 1st Appearance November 24, 1918 - The goings-on in Gasoline Alley Texas was voted as the top comic-strip of all time.  The strip began in 1918 under the guidance of one of the finest cartoonists ever, Frank King.  King would start with 'Uncle Walt', a rotund but good-natured local of the small-town.   The strip meandered in obscurity for a couple of years, until in 1921 King added the new dimension of Skeezix, an abandoned baby which Walt adopted.  From there, King would begin to weave a tapestry of growing up in small-town america.   King's finest moments were the interaction of Walt and Skeezix and then later Corky (his son from his marriage to Phyllis Blossom).  The pages where the kindly Walt is walking through the seasons with his sons are spectacular.  Walt would bring up his boys in a world full of warmth and color, while the boys would get into their mischief.  King was the master of mood in his presentations, and the mood was usually bright.  His work on extending page layouts beyond the traditional panels and to extend the artwork past the panel boundary is a study in cartooning.  The strip is still alive today and has a popular following.   The market for Gasoline Alley is very strong.  Luckily for the collector, the popularity of the strip placed it in an extraordinarily high number of newspapers which makes the supply ample and keeps prices reasonable.  Fulls for Gasoline Alley are readily available into the late 1930's, collectors go for those at a steady pace.  The very earliest strips through the first year of Skeezix are premium.  Other premium pages include King's panel experimentation strips, his color mosaic strips and his trademark yearly calendar strips.
