Chief Wahoo  (& Steve Roper)  by Saunders & Woggon (0205-) 1st Appearance November 1936 - Created by Allen Saunders and Elmer Woggon, Chief Wahoo was a humor strip pitting the Chief in a war of gags with his antagonist J. Mortimer Gusto (a WC Fields lookalike). From it’s inception in 1936 the strip was meant to tickle the funny bone of the reader. Wahoo lived in Teepee Town and his lovelife was dominated by Minnie-Ha-Cha.   It was during World War II that a big-town reporter named Steve Roper came to Teepee Town and slowly took over the strip. As Roper took over, the gags slowed and stopped, replaced by adventure and drama. The strip lives on today as Mike Nomad, making this one of the longest running drama strips ever.  Chief Wahoo sales are as limited pre-Roper, but the post Steve Roper strips are very hot sellers.  Steve Roper dailies are very hot as well, pre-Roper dailies not so much.

Clarence  by Crawford Young (0210-) 1st Appearance 1921? - Created by Crawford Young, Clarence was a light humor strip which began in 1924. The story revolved around the marriage of Clarence and his cutesy young wife Mary. Together they pranced through 25 years of rather unremarkable cartooning.  Clarence is definitely a completist’s strip. Demand is relatively low, meaning that the pages can be had for minimum investment.

Connie by Frank Godwin (0220-) 1st Sunday November 13, 1927, 1st Daily May 13, 1929 - The popularity of Connie in collector’s circles is directly attributable to the talent of the strip’s creator Frank Godwin. Godwin is acknowledged to be not only a wonderful cartoonist but as one of America’s great artists,  a rare height that few professionals reach.  Connie began in 1927 as one of the typical Flapper strips of the roaring 20’s. The strip would evolve into an adventure strip in the early 30’s as the depression forced many of the flappers to get a job. The big draw for collector’s would come in the mid-to-late 30’s when the strip dabbled in science fiction. Throughout all of these eras, the artwork of Frank Godwin was a wonderful constant.  Sales of full-page full-size Connie are brisk, the sci-fi strips of the late 30’s sell at a very high premium and are rarely offered. The dailies are ever rarer and also sell very well.

Count Screwloose(..Of Tooloose) by Milt Gross (0225-) 1st Appearance February 17, 1929 - Count Screwloose was a marvelous weekly offering from Milt Gross which gave us the zany antics of 'Count' Screwloose.   Screwloose was small energetic man who was clearly delusional based on his self-imposed title and his rollicking antics.  In Marx Brothers fashion, the count would place himself into common-day situations only to bring havoc to them.    Screwloose's concepts of distorted high society norms often would ruin the day for any average Joe he came in contact with.   There was no continuity in the strip and none was needed, each week's cartoon was a fully-complete masterpiece of low-brow comedy.  The market for Count Screwloose is similar to that of any Milt Gross offerings, very hot.   Sundays in virtually any size sell very well at high premium.  Dailies are quite uncommon, demand a high premium, and move immediately when in stock.
