| Alley Oop by VT Hamlin (0020-) 1st Daily August 7th, 1933, 1st Sunday September 9th, 1934 - Alley Oop the Caveman, the pinnacle creation of Vincent (VT) Hamlin first hit the Comics in August 7, 1933 with a Sunday Feature following on September 9, 1934. From the very beginning, the strip was one of the feature favorites in many newspapers. Alley Oop hails from the Kingdom of Moo during prehistoric times. In Moo, his life was a funny soap opera dealing with his friends (featured is Foozy, his old crotchety philosopher friend) and his pet dinosaur Dinny. To the delight of readers, Alley Oop would become a Time Traveler in the late 1930s and would visit such historic figures as Cleopatra and Blackbeard the Pirate. Although Hamlin would turn over the art duties in the late 1940s, he continued to write the scripts for the feature into the 1970s. Collectors are ravenous for the big beautiful Full-color Full-size pages which appeared in a few papers until the early 1940s. The fulls would often feature a header strip of which Foozys Philosophies or Dinnys family album were a couple. Theyre very hard to keep in stock. Midway through World War II, these fulls and the header feature disappeared. The subsequent strips were usually Half or Tab-size and are still quite popular. Dailies sell quite well also. | ||||

| Archie by Bob Montana (0040-) 1st Appearance in Newspaper comics 1947 - Created for Comic Books in the 1940s, Archie grew to be the ultimate teen gag title of a generation. Archie was the typical good-natured high school teenager of the Post-war era. His story-lines revolved around his many tame love interests, mostly with Betty and Veronica and also his rivalry with the spoiled rich Reggie. The comedy relief of the comic was Jughead, Archie's slow-witted best pal. Created by Bob Montana, the inspiration for Archie was said to have come from an earlier teen comic strip, Harold Teen by Walter Berndt. After success in comic-books, the newspaper strip was introduced shortly after in the late 1940s. Dailies and Sundays both appeared and ran for decades. Archie Sundays and Dailies both sell quite well. The appeal of the comic-book to the nostalgia generation, ensures the popularity of the less common strip version. | ||||

| Barney Baxter (in the Air) by Frank Miller (0045-) 1st Appearance 1935, 1st Sunday January 24, 1937 - In the days of the aviation strip Barney Baxter was one of the most exciting of strips of the genre. Barney was a young flier of obvious skill who fought against the forces of the Axis on all fronts. In the pre-war days, Barney would meet the main co-stars of the strip, the lovely Maura with whom Barney eventually takes vows with, and the comical Gopher Gus. The real attraction of the strip was the stunning dog-fight scenes. Frank Miller was an extraordinary illustrator of aerial action, and he put plenty of it into Barney Baxter. Under his pen, Fighters would soar, circle and dive in fabulously realistic action sequences. This made Barney Baxter one of the truly classic strips of the 30's and 40's. The market for Barney Baxter is quite good. Offered exclusively as Tabs or portions, they are very hard to keep in stock even at a modest premium. Dailies sell even quicker than Sundays. | ||||
