| Abbie an' Slats by Raeburn Van Buren (0010-) 1st Daily July 7th, 1937, 1st Sunday January 15th, 1939 - Abbie an Slats first appeared on July 7, 1937 as a daily with a Sunday feature soon following. The strip revolved around the escapades of Aubrey Slats Scrapple, a New York street-kid transplanted into the country town of Crabtree Corners. The strip was ably written by Al Capp (creator of Lil Abner) , but the wonderful artwork of Raeburn Van Buren overshadowed Capps work. Before Slats, Van Buren had been working on special features and various newspaper syndicates. His artwork would pop up on the Sunday Feature Sections of many newspapers. Although his artwork is somewhat stifled by the often small size of comics, his obvious talent still shows through nicely. He would continue to draw the strip until its end in 1971, one of the longest runs by a single artist on any strip. The strip was widely syndicated, so the availability of cut strips is usually pretty good. It has a moderate following, buyers usually prefer larger runs to get the flavor of the continuous stories of the feature. Dailies sell at about the same pace as sundays. | ||||

| Ace Drummond by Eddie Rickenbacker (0013-) 1st Appearance February 1935 - America's romance with airflight started hitting a crescendo with Charles Lindbergh's trans-Atlantic flight in 1927. That interest was still peaking in 1935 when King feature decided to take advantage. They signed World War I american war-hero Eddie Rickenbacker to put his name on a flight-oriented comic-strip titled Ace Drummond. Ace Drummond was a young heroic pilot who would use his Barn Pilot skills to take on evil-doers on the skies. Ace would team with his co-pilot Dinny and his mechanic Jerry on many exciting adventures. The strip artwork was handled Clayton Knight, a war pilot himself. Knight was very adept at creating visual appealing panoramas of airplanes running through stunts in the skies. His depictions of classic airplanes were accurate, bordering on the spectacular. This often covered for Knight's crude human depictions. The result was a strip which has classic feel and nostalgic adventure tone. Ace Drummond is a premium strip for which the market is quite good. Collectors love the full-color, full-size pages that ran in most Puck sections. | ||||

| Aladdin Jr. by Wm. Meade Prince & Les Forgrave (0017-) 1st Appearance January 4, 1942 - Aladdin Jr. was the promising, short-run creation of Les Forgrave and William Meade Prince in 1942. The story of the strip revolved around a young lad named Jack who was living the country life with his Aunt Belle and Uncle Pete. One day, his aunt breaks down and gives Jack a crate that his father had bequeathed to him. Inside was an arabian lamp, and when he rubbed the lamp a very mischevious Genie popped into Jack's life. From that point, the action of the strip became the struggle of Jack to keep his Genie in control and a secret. The strip was ably written by Les Forgrave, the creator of the long-running 'Big Sister'. The exceptional artwork was provided by William Meade Prince, an artist of note for his magazine illustrations. The strip lasted for less than two years, Prince would leave the strip to illustrate for the War effort. The market for Aladdin Jr. is much too slow for the quality of the strip. Mostly asked for by completists, full-color fulls with the Topper 'Secrets of Magic' are the preference. | ||||
